DATE NIGHT

In lieu of buying each other gifts for Christmas, my husband and I go on the "12 Dates of Christmas"….
Dress: Carmen by Carmen Marc Valvo. #FabFound at Marshalls, c/o. Cape: Zara, previous season. Shoes: KORS by Michael Kors via TJ Maxx, on clearance (similar). Bag: LV. Photos taken by Carlis.

… Okay so we still end up "surprising" each other with a small gift too but love this little tradition we started and have been doing now for the past five years. The dates (he picks 6 and I pick 6) include a lot of free seasonal events in the area (like visiting the National Christmas tree with hot chocolate), and things we don't normally do together (like each bake our own pie, remember this?) It's a good excuse to spend more time together and time exploring the city we love.

This year, Marshalls generously sponsored one of our dates - a dinner date to Barcelona, a relatively new restaurant in DC. If you live in the area or near one of their other locations, you MUST try it! (Hint: Get the crepes for dessert! "Crepas Salguero: Dulce de Leche, Chocolate Sauce & Vanilla Ice Cream") Amazing.

The outfit I picked out for this date, also sponsored by Marshalls, is Carmen by Carmen Marc Volvo and was the perfect dress for a big meal (fit-and flare hides the stomach). My other criteria for the dress: not all black or B&W (because that's all I wear lately), and covers most of my skin (because it's cold out there). This dress satisfied all those needs. P.S. It also comes in black and white. Aren't you proud of me for resisting it?

I'm off to attend my brother-in-law's wedding this weekend and have a few post ideas in mind. Hopefully I can execute them. Stay tuned! xo

Disclosure: I have received free products or value from Marshalls of The TJX Companies, Inc. in connection with my affiliation with Marshalls Project FAB. All opinions are my own.

  2. Love that idea! We gave each other a weekend away to NYC this year as our first time away from baby girl- kind of similar in thinking. Spending time together versus buying stuff. I'm so excited to not have diapers to change and just be an adult! (As I probably cry the whole time, haha).

So many fun things to try in DC- I think you should do an idea post for us next year so I can steal some!
